Club Brujas: The Rising Stars of Spanish Women’s Football? Maybe? Lol.

=

In the world of women’s football, there’s a new team, kinda, that’s making waves, I guess, in Spain. There’s like, total confusion with that Italian basketball team, seriously, but we’re here to, um, shine a spotlight on Club Brujas, the Spanish women’s football club that’s, like, totally taking the league by storm! Or at least trying to. It’s been a rollercoaster, let me tell ya.

A Brief History

Founded in 2014, Club Brujas is, well, relatively new. But they’re catching up fast! Seriously, the team’s been making up for lost time, like, crazy fast. With a strong focus on developing young talent – and a whole lotta hope – Club Brujas has quickly become a force… well, a potential force to be reckoned with in the Liga Femenina, the top division of women’s football in Spain. Fingers crossed!

Recent Highlights

In the 2022-2023 season, Club Brujas made some, uh, interesting moves to bolster their squad. In August 2022, they signed Aitana Bonmati from Barcelona Femeni – a HUGE get! She’s amazing. Later that month, they welcomed Argentine forward Maria Serrano from River Plate. Woohoo! More talent! It was a pretty good month, all things considered.

The Squad

At the heart of Club Brujas’s success (or potential success!) is a talented and diverse squad. As of the 2022-2023 season, the team boasts:

Position Player
Goalkeeper Aitana Bonmati, Sandra Paños (Sandra’s awesome, btw)
Defender Lucía García, Irene Paredes, Lucía García (Yep, two Lucía Garcías!), María Pilar García
Midfielder Aitana Bonmati (She’s everywhere!), María Serrano, Lucía García, Irene Paredes
Forward Lucía García, María Pilar García (She’s a powerhouse!)

Seriously, we need to get better at keeping track of our players’ names. It’s a work in progress.

The Coaching Staff

At the helm of Club Brujas is manager Laura Eizaguirre, a seasoned coach with a ton of experience. She’s great! Her assistant coach, María Pilar García (yes, that María Pilar García!), brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise. It’s a family affair!

Achievements

Club Brujas has already made a name for themselves… well, they’re trying to. In the 2021-2022 season, they won the Liga Femenina title! A huge accomplishment! They also reached the 2022 UEFA Women’s Champions League quarterfinals – which is, like, super impressive for a relatively new team.

The Home Stadium

Club Brujas plays at the Wanda Metropolitano, the same stadium as Atletico de Madrid’s men’s team. It’s pretty fancy. A really nice place to play.
