Saquon Barkley: The Rising Star of the NFL (or, is he?!)
The National Football League (NFL) is known for its talented players, and one name thats been makin’ waves lately is Saquon Barkley. Seriously, the guy’s a beast! The talented running back, he’s been a key player for the New York Giants, and his stats? Don’t even get me started. They’re, like, insanely good. This article? It’s gonna dive into Saquon’s career, those darn injuries, and what the future holds for this amazing dude. I’m kinda nervous for him, to be honest.
A Stellar Career (mostly!)
Saquon Barkley got drafted by the New York Giants, second overall pick in 2018. Can you believe it? His college career at Penn State was killer – he even won the 2016 Doak Walker Award! Dude was a total stud. His speed, power, and, like, elusiveness… man, he was a nightmare for defenders. I mean, seriously, a total nightmare. They couldn’t touch him!
His rookie season? Boom! 1,307 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Plus, he caught 91 passes for 721 yards and 4 more touchdowns. It was insane! He totally deserved the 2018 NFL Rookie of the Year award. No question about it.
Awards and Accolades (and near misses!)
Barkley’s been racking up the awards:
Award | Year |
---|---|
2018 NFL Rookie of the Year | 2018 |
2018 Pro Bowl Alternate | 2018 | (So close!) |
2019 Pro Bowl Alternate | 2019 | (Again, so close!) |
Injuries and Recovery (the bummer part)
Okay, here’s where things get a little sad. In February 2023, he tore his ACL. A torn ACL! In his right knee. During practice. It was awful. He landed weird after a jump, and bam. Total bummer.
The Giants said he needed surgery, 6-9 months recovery. Ugh. But, he started rehab in April 2023, working with the Giants’ training staff. Good for him! I was so worried.
Return to Practice (a glimmer of hope!)
May 2023 rolls around, and guess what? He’s back on the practice field! Doing drills and scrimmages. Coach Daboll said he was “making progress” and “looking good.” That’s great news! I was seriously holding my breath.
Preseason Outlook (fingers crossed!)
Going into the 2023 preseason, his status was still kinda up in the air. But the Giants were optimistic. Daboll said he was “on track.” Let’s hope so!
Career Statistics (the impressive stuff)
Barkley’s stats are just crazy good:
